When agency Creative Director, Graham Smith had to choose a photographer to develop the first Powergen Calendar for 1991, Bob Carlos Clarke stood out as the ideal candidate to create a style that was radically different to the Pirelli Calendar.

Graham Smith comments, "What we needed was a new angle on the Calendar business, an intellectual approach that still created unforgettable images - with the credibility of a ‘celebrity’ photographer."

This approach certainly paid-off, as within a few weeks of its launch in London, the Powergen Calendar 1991 had picked up no less than 13 major international design and photographic awards.

When Graham Smith’s company No Excuses won the Powergen Calendar project again for 1997,1998 and 1999, it was no surprise that Bob Carlos Clarke was the first choice to create another series of remarkable images.
